Right to Appeal

Since the world we live in isn't black-and-white, we have provisions for appealing parking tickets. If you wish to appeal a ticket you may do so within ten calendar days of the issue date on the ticket. If you appeal beyond ten calendar days, you must include the ticket payment (therefore beyond 10 days, you cannot use the online form). Tickets paid after 21 calendar days must include an additional $10 late fee. Your right to appeal is forfeited after 30 calendar days.

Appeals Options

You may appeal online, in writing, by fax, or in person. Always use an appeals form; this form is available here printable in PDF format. In any case, if you are presenting an emergency or any other extenuating circumstances as cause for your appeal, you must attach, fax, or bring documentation to support the claim (e.g., any relevant auto repair bills or medical records).

Online
If you wish to appeal a ticket you may do so using our online appeals form within ten calendar days of the issue date on the ticket. If you appeal beyond ten calendar days, you must include the ticket payment, (
therefore beyond 10 days, you cannot use the online form).

Writing
Completely fill out the appeals form* (also available at Commuter and Parking Services and at the parking and information booths). Submit the form in person or by mail. In any case, we must receive your written appeal within the time limitations described under Right to Appeal (above).

Fax
You may fax us your written appeals form (255-0257). Be sure to also fax your ticket and to include your name, address, and telephone number.

Appeals Board

If the appeals representatives uphold the fine and you still believe the violation was issued in error, you may have your case reviewed by THAB (the Transportation Hearings Appeals Board). The board is an independent body comprised of faculty, staff, and student representatives appointed by the University Assembly.

To petition the board, put your appeal in writing and send it in care of our office. Be as specific as possible when describing the error you believe was made; without this information the board may choose not to review your case. Written requests for review by the board must be made within ten calendar days of the appeals representatives decision.

If the board elects to hear your appeal, you will be offered the opportunity to come to a meeting of the Board. You may waive your right to meet in person with the Board, in which case your appeal will be considered in absentia; you must make this request in advance and in writing. If you do not show up for your scheduled hearing the appeals representative's decision will be upheld.
