Forego parking permit and you can select an OmniRide pass, valid on any campus, city, or county bus in Tompkins County, any time the buses run. Cornell pays the fare. If you live out of Tompkins County, Cornell will subsidize your transit outside the county and pay all your fares within the county. To be eligible for OmniRide, you must be a regular (not temporary) Cornell employee receiving benefits.

OmniRide Benefits
  • A thirty-day risk-free trial period.
  • Free transit anywhere in Tompkins County.
  • Reduced fares for out-of-county commuters.
  • Easy, annual renewals.
  • Eligible for TDMP books of one-day permits, if you have a vehicle registered with the Transportation Office. OmniRiders can receive up to three books in a calendar year.
  • You may use your OmniRide pass on evenings and weekends.
  • Cornell provides numerous support services, such as emergency ride (see below).
  • You can use OmniRide from many convenient Park and Ride lots.
  • Improved public transit. (As demand has increased, new buses and bus routes have been, and will continue to be, added.)

OmniRide Program Support Services

TDMP Books of One-Day Permits
Faculty and staff participants in OmniRide may request three books of permits each year. These books of ten one-day, campus perimeter parking permits are valid in areas designated: A, CF, CP, E, K, ME, O, SA, R, T, TH, W, and WE. You can locate these areas on the faculty/staff parking map*. OmniRide participants have the option of buying one additional book every six months at a discounted price (currently $50).

Some TDMP participants, because of dependent- or child-care responsibilities, may be eligible for additional free books (faculty and staff only; see FamilyCare support service, below).

Emergency Ride
If a personal emergency arises during the workday and you need to get to your car, home, or elsewhere, call 255-0000 (5-0000 from a campus phone). Commuter and Parking Services will get you where you need to go. The service operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For a medical, fire, or police emergency dial 911.

FamilyCare
If you have documented dependent- or child-care responsibilities and you are a participant in OmniRide, RideShare, or Occasional Parker, you may be eligible to receive additional free books of one-day parking permits. To find out more call Commuter and Parking Services at 255-PARK (available to faculty and staff only).

Park and Ride
You can use park-and-ride lots to catch your bus. Parking in these lots is free. If you live outside Tompkins County, consider joining OmniRide, driving to a Park and Ride lot in Tompkins County, and taking a bus to Cornell while the university pays your fare. Park-and-ride lots are indicated on the TCAT Transit Map and listed here.

TCAT Transit Map
To view the TCAT transit map online, use on-line trip planning, or find out more information about public transit in Tompkins County, visit TCAT's website.

CU ID Transit and Shuttle Privileges

No-Fee Transit Option for Employees
As an employee, you can ride TCAT buses between the Cornell campus and downtown Ithaca and the airport - Monday-Friday - and pay no fare just by using your CU ID when boarding. For seven-day-a-week transit privileges, please consider joining the OmniRide program instead of purchasing a parking permit.

East Hill Shuttle Service
Transportation Services is offering faculty and staff a shuttle service that travels between the central campus and East Hill facilities on Pine Tree Road every 10 minutes, Monday through Friday. You must display your faculty/staff ID when boarding.
A pdf version of the current brochure, schedule, and route map can be found here.
