| Registering
a Vehicle |
All faculty,
staff, and students must register their vehicles, if they ever intend
to bring them to campus, whether or not they buy a parking permit.
Registration is not a parking permit and provides no parking privileges
(except A lot after 2:30 p.m. on weekdays), but it does ensure that
the owner or operator may be identified rapidly and contacted if
necessary.
Staff vehicle registration form.
Student vehicle registration form. |
| Parking |
| Cars
On-campus parking--except in metered and most time-zone areas--and
vehicle access to campus is by permit only Monday - Friday from
7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the calendar year. Some areas have special evening and weekend restrictions. In addition, some parking restrictions, such as those in residence hall parking lots and other designated areas, are in force seven days a week, around the clock. Read signs carefully before entering a parking lot and/or space.
Permit and
commuting options vary based on your affiliation with the university.
Parking permits are only valid in the areas for which they are
issued, are non-transferable, and must be displayed as noted.
At times, you may need to park near a campus building to load
or unload heavy objects. A loading permit may be obtained from
a parking and information booth. If you change license plates during the time your permit is
valid, you'll need to return your old permit to the Transportation
Office for a free replacement.
Metered lots and spaces
are open to everyone. Parking restrictions and privileges are
in effect throughout the year, but may be temporarily suspended
during holidays, special events, or emergencies. Winter
parking restrictions are in effect December 1 to April 1.
Motorcycles (main Motorcycles,
Motorscooters, Mopeds page)
Motorcycles and motorscooters must display an M permit and are
restricted to M Permit spaces
at all times. There is a one-time charge for the permit, which is good as long as you own your motorcycle. Bikes (main Bikes
page)
Bicycle registration is free and mandatory at Cornell. All members
of the Cornell community must register their bicycles at the Transportation
Office, 116 Maple Avenue if it is ridden on campus.
You need only register once.

| Penalties |
| If you receive a summons and have questions, call the Transportation
Office at 255-PARK or ask for an explanation of the pertinent
regulation at a parking and information booth. You have the right to appeal a ticket. Appeals submitted beyond
ten days must be accompanied by payment of the fine and any applicable
late fees. Late charges will be added if the ticket is not paid
within 21 calendar days. Your right to appeal is forfeited after
30 calendar days. A vehicle can be towed immediately if it is found in a parking
space for the handicapped, loading zone, fire lane, along a yellow-painted
curb, or parked in any manner creating or likely to create hazard
to life and property. Chronic violators may be towed. All unauthorized
parked vehicles are subject to fines and/or towing. Please inform
anyone who brings your car on campus of the regulations. Find out more information about violations
and appeals.

| Governance |
| The Office of Commuter and Parking Services regularly seeks
the input of the University Assembly through the Transportation
Advisory Committee (TAC). TAC and
Transportation Hearing Appeals Board (THAB)
are independent bodies comprising faculty, staff, and student
representatives appointed through the Office of the Assemblies
(for information call 255-3715).

| Bus
Service |
| Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT)
provides public transit service to the City of Ithaca, to rural
and suburban areas of Tompkins County, to Cornell University and
Ithaca College, to Newark Valley in northern Tioga County, and
to Interlaken in southern Seneca County. Most TCAT buses are lift or ramp equipped.
TCAT`s web site has complete information
about paratransit in Tompkins County.
Faculty and staff can ride TCAT buses between the Cornell campus and downtown Ithaca and the airport - Monday-Friday - and pay no fare just by showing their Cornell photo ID when boarding.
Temporary employees can receive a temporary campus bus pass. Bus passes are valid
on routes 31, 35, 50, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 91, 92, and 93 between
two Cornell facilities. Bring your appointment letter or a letter
from your supervisor stating your employee status (regular employee
or temporary employee) and the length of your appointment.
Call TCAT at 277-RIDE for complete route,
fare, and schedule information. Or visit their web
site.

| Airport
Parking |
| When flying from the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, the parking discount for Cornell community members (faculty, staff, affiliates) travelling
on Cornell business is 25%. Airport cashiers must be presented with a Cornell ID card
in order to apply the discount.
Please remember: travelers must
identify themselves as Cornell employees travelling on university
business in order to receive the 25% discount. If a traveler does
not obtain the discount, he/she may be responsible for the remaining
portion of the parking charge. Long-term parking is $6 per day; short-term rates are $8 per
day. Either one will be discounted by 25% for Cornell business
travelers. Short-term parking is handy when a traveler needs to
park closer to the terminal building, or if the long-term area
is full. Please check with your department to see whether you
will be reimbursed the higher balance should you elect to park
in short-term.
There are no special requirements or provisions for students
or Cornell community members on pleasure travel.
