Construction projects that are under Cornell's control are planned to cause the least disruption possible. This can be accomplished because the planning is coordinated among many offices throughout campus. Whenever possible, we work with the city, county, or town to help minimize the impacts of their projects on the Cornell community.

Most construction undertakings are planned during summer when traffic and population are at a minimum. However, hundreds of projects are completed each year; most of these are short-term and cause minimal disruption. Those will not be posted on this page. In order to assure that these small projects will not cause undue problems, the university requires contractors to do all they can to ease the situation. Often, this means that contractors do much of their work on evenings and weekends and they provide flaggers if they are blocking a traffic lane or intersection. In all cases, the planning includes assurances of safety and convenience for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.

Contractor/construction worker parking information

It is the general contractor's responsibility to arrange for parking throughout the construction project. Commuter and Parking Services' Field Support Services Manager (255-2569) will work closely with the general contractor and the project manager to make the arrangements as convenient as possible.

Construction workers should expect to receive parking information from their foremen; it is up to the general contractor to pass the word. However, it is the responsibility of each construction worker to register (at no cost) his or her car with Commuter and Parking Services (116 Maple Avenue). No car that isn't registered with the university may be parked anywhere on campus.
